clean up

Above is a picture of what our new basement looks like. If you look to the far wall you can see how much of the dry wall had to be cut out. The flooding to our area has been so extensive. Nearly our entire block was flooded. I heard of people up north who had up to 8 feet in their basement. I went to the grocery store and that's all people are talking about. The kids came home from school saying Everyone in their class had flooding. Each day as I throw more and more away I am keeping track of things I have started referring to as "tender mercies." Today's tender mercy was that the red dye that got all over the kids clothes came out! Our next step is to finish throwing away and cleaning. We bought a de-humidifier today to finish drying out our crawlspace and to prevent mold. My current tally is 10 loads of laundry all washed twice on our highest heat setting with a double rinse. I believe I have only two loads left of flood laundry before I get started on the regular laundry of a household of 6! I'm starting to think home ownership is not all it's cracked up to be!

Such a bummer. I can't believe how much you have to do. Who needs to own a home really?
