15 hours of driving, 5 girls(my neice Kiala came with us), so much gear we could barely shut the doors and a week of camping with the Doermann's. We had a great time even though we got off to a pretty rough start. We got the campsite on the afternoon of the third and had a few hours before the clouds burst and we are doused with tons of rain. We cooked our dinner under tarps and in ponchos and ate together in one tent. We moments later found out that one of our tents was not in fact waterproof. We decided to call it a night and we all crammed/cuddled in one tent for the night. 4 Adults, 5 children and 2 babies. It was not the most restful night(unless you are Greg and can sleep through anything) it made for some great memories and stories. Pearl was quite entertaining. She apparently talks in her sleep. That night she said "I like Raspberries...yeah berries, he he."
Luckily the sun came up and we had a great rest of the trip. We went to Mt. Rushmore, went back for the lighting ceremony which I'm told was very cool. I unfortunately had to take emelina to the bathroom. We ran the whole way hoping to make it back in time...we did not. We drove through Custer State Park where we saw Buffalo. One came so close Tom could have touched it. We also went to Bear Country where a bear got up on his hind legs to look in Greg and Lizzy's car.
We were very proud of ourselves for our camping. We had only been one time before and only for one night. Lizzy was incharge of food and she definately delivered. Gourment camping meals!
